You new to this car?
The rotary injects engine oil into the combustion chamber and burns it...figure one quart every 3000 miles, so basically, your oil level is always dropping.

rx7s do lose a little bit of oil past the rotor seals so depending on how long it took to get that low there may be nothing wrong. on the checking oil I've been told both ways are correct.

Actually that little bit lost through the seals is nothing.

What causes the need for oil is the oil injectors, that are there BY MAZDA, to inject oil into the rotors. This is by design from Mazda.

I would not worry too much, if you don't see a leak and it is running fine then no big deal.

Just fill it up and check it each time you fill the tank with Gas. If you want to be sure then check the compression, that will tell you more then anything, since it is a new car it would be a good idea anyways.

But the RX7 is SUPPOSED to use oil, so don't worry too much if everything else is fine.

A worn engine will lose about 1 qt per 1,000 miles.

See the free factory service manual links here for the correct amount and grade of oil:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...18#post5131218

When measuring the oil, the engine should be warm and the car should be on level ground. This is best done after taking a small trip of at least 2 miles.

I recommend Castrol GTX (non-synthetic) engine oil. I also recommend the F-106 Fumoto oil drain valve (Regular, non-nipple):

Right, read my post, that is from the injectors, not the seals leaking. At least as far as i know.

Injectors during average driving = about 1 qt per 3,000 miles.
Engine with leaking oil seals = about 1 qt per 1,000 miles, sometimes more.

Mine burns too much oil, but doesn't smoke all that much and it loses about a quart every 200 miles.

Before I rebuilt it, it was more like every 1000.

I'd rethink the rebuild procedure.
