Since the online FSM only has 89 (I believe rx-7 airbags started in '90) there is no mention to removal of the airbag assembly on the steering wheel.

Since I generally don't touch explosives, I have no idea how to 'properly' remove the steering wheel, and then later reinstall it without breaking anything.

 

pull the batery cabels. Let the car sit for like 5 min then be careful and unscrew the airbag and unclip the plug. make sure to ground yourself to rid your body of static elictricity. o yea when you set down the airbag always face the rear of the bag or the metel part down. then once you have it out take a model rocket ignitor and blow that thing up. its lots of fun. but i am not liable for damage or ingury. thats how they tought me at BMW trainning grounds.

 

thanks, airbag wiring has been disabled for 2 years, so I think I'm safe.

and I'm putting it back in the steering wheel when I'm done.. lol
