I live in the same city you do. I have never had a problem starting my 7 in winter, even during the cold snaps we've had.

Lock? I wouldn't worry about that. What I would be worried about is high rpm, compression resulting in extremely high pressure water needing to go someplace fast, and easily broken springs and seals that are in the way of the water.

Point being that it wont get to a high rpm if your injecting that much water, the motor will not combust the air/fuel mix because of too much water (therefore the revs will drop, car will stall) long before you'd even think this MIGHT be a problem.

(for all your information when I was testing out water injection on my motor I did this very thing and was adding too much water while at redline and no damage at all. The car would just stop firing until an acceptable ratio was found again.)

We're not talking about that large of a volume of water. This can only happen if the entire displacement of the compression chamber gets filled with water. If the engine is still running, this obviously isnt the case. It is a non-issue, trust me. If you allow too much water to mix in, the car will just die long before the entire chamber gets filled.

which lines do i need to suck up the water?
Uh, did I not just cover that in detail? I mean, if I hadnt went to the trouble to write out a long *** paragraph about it, it'd be different but sheesh...

pics please.
Have you bothered to print out that description I gave and walk out to your car to look for yourself? I'll get right on those pics Would you like me to come and do it for you?

Play nice Kevin Which hose did you swipe on the s4 NA? The oil injector line as well? You didn't really mention which it was and where it goes, just roughly where it's located

Well, hell man. It's not like I didnt just sit there and tell everybody what to do. If there's one thing I cant stand, it's people that dont listen. I mean, it's not like Im getting paid to sit here and tell people this stuff...

You didn't really mention which it was and where it goes,
I seem to recall saying:

For an s5 NA I use 2 capped off/unused nipples on the middle intake, by the acv...I use 2 vacuum lines of my own, teed into one, and dip that into the water
Which hose did you swipe on the s4 NA? The oil injector line as well?
Right. It's the fattest one on the front/top of the dynamic chamber. It splits into 4 lines that go to the oil injectors, which go directly into the engine. You can also make your own tee, and do as described above for the s5 na...

Ahh, I was asking about the s4, and you just said that he picked the right one, so I wasn't sure which one it was. Going to give this a try soon, joy joy.

Ahh, I'm blind or stupid, you did say it was the oil injector line, must've thought you were talking about the TII already. Sorry

i just ran some water through my motor and then went and took it to redline it 4 or 5 times, let it cool down and then shut it off. it seemed to run a little better but i didnt even run 1/2 a gallon through it because its my first time and i still havent seen written in stone what line will get to both chambers on a TII. i used the boost sensor vac line and it seemed to work well. Any advice?

Thanks,
James

Nice discussion. I might have to try this (water injection) my J-spec.

I must say I was a bit skeptical, (like ATFing) until I heard Kevin say he does it regularly.

oops, sorry guys...guess I should have read all three pages first! the guys that have blown coolant seals & sucked in coolant- has the engine looked really clean when ya did the teardown? that might settle the dispute on cleaning properties of ethylene glycol...

I've done the carb cleaner thing in my S4 a while back but this is better to clean the throttle body than the motor and since our TB is so easy to get to, if I've ever cleaned it since I've just taken it off. So, for an S4 NA kevin says to pull the top fat line on the UIM but you don't tee anything into this since it already routes where you want. Just dip this line and rev huh? May try it, may not. To anyone who hasn't done anything like this the car WILL run like **** and you will think you're doing something very very bad and it will smoke, a lot. It also sounds like you're best off doing it yourself rather than having someone hold the throttle while you feed the water...it should be easier to balance throttle and water by yourself from the engine bay - I know people get nervous and thats where the repeated info comes from. someone correct me if i got anything wrong

sounds good to me man....i did the throttle while i let someone else do the water and it worked pretty well for me. i will have to use the top hose off the throttle body next time. Just to make everything clear do you stick a hose on the top nipple and stick that in the water or do you stick the hose that you pulled off the throttle body in the water. im not totally clear on that.

You need to get your eyes checked there, bud.

You do tee into that line. Otherwise, you have a big, fat vacuum leak while you're trying to do the water trick, which is going to make the water trick a lot harder to do...
