How much would you pay for a transmission?

HI-

Bad new: yesterday I lost EVERY gear except 3rd. My transmission has jsut checked out, 258,000 miles young.
I am going to have the transmission rebuilt, but how much do you think I should pay? I am having a transmission specialist do it.

Getting a tranny rebuilt can be pretty pricey - a tranny with that many miles that went that badly will likely have few good parts in it.

FYI, I bought a good used NA tranny off Ebay for $70. Might even be worth finding a used tranny that's in decent shape and having it rebuilt or gone over by a tranny shop.

I am not skilled enough to do the labor. I am going to have a transmission "specialist" do the work for me. I guess most of the bill is labor He told me that if there were parts that were savable from my tranny, he would use those to re-build it. Otherwise, in the worst case scenario he will have to get an ENTIRE transmission. He told me that that mya cost up to 2600. But, if everything goes well he said it would be around 1300.

banzaitoyota.........

What kind of condition is this transmission in? Is it a 5 speed manual? How many miles are on it? Also, where would you be shipping from?
