how much rim space added with coil overs?
how much rim space added with coil overs?
I know you need to add spacers to FD rims to get the front to clear stock springs/perches. but if I add a GC kit and grind away the unneeded perch. will that gain me enough space? when you put a 1" spacer on how much space is there between the tire and perch?
I don't want to run spacers cause they're unsafe for hard driving. don't want to end up rolling on my rotors...

I started out with 235/35's on my Konig's which are 18X8 +40mm offset and I needed to run 3mm spacers in order for the front tires not rubbing the spring.
Recently, I switched to 225/40's on the same wheels and now I can run w/o spacers. it's very smooth as the spacers always gave me a bit of shimmy. I wish I had started with the 225's in the first place.
This has all been with the GC coilovers. I thought you might be able to use this as a reference point.
You probably will not want any wider than 8" for the front and if you went with 30mm offset I think you'd rub the fender in hard corners if you're as low as I have mine set. The way it is now I get no rubbing under any condition. I think with 18X8 anyway 35-40mm is just right.

You need to go with a 1" spacer, cause the the rim/tire gets very close to the bottom spring perch.  In fact, the Ground Control coilovers (with 7" front springs) need to have the adjustable collar spun all the way down; this puts them in the same position at the lower stock strut perch which gets in the way.
The larger rims might get away from the lower strut perch, but it'll give you very little added clearance, since the stock springs are already progressively wound (i.e. smaller diameter) at the bottom.

ya but the GC perch is only what, 3" diameter for a 2.5" spring? where as the stock springs are 4-5"s? so that should give me an inch or so more room before hitting the perch shouldn't it?

The stock springs are like 4"-5" on top, but they taper down to like 2" on the bottom.

ReTed did make a good point- I have 7" springs in the front and my collars are spun all the way down (in front) - but it works out fine as the car sits low the way I like it.
