How much to refinsh the rotar housing?

Hi Guys.

Firstly, GREAT SITE!!!

Is the coating on the rotor housing a special material? I was wondering if it was Niasil product like NiCOM used for snowmobiles?

How much does it run and who does a nice job?

Thanks for being patient on my first post.

I don't think that you can actually have the housing refinished. I know you can have the irons lapped, but negative on the housings.

Herer is why I ask.

I got a bunch of rotor housings from a lost freight auction. They look damn nice, like they were refinished. I have worked in a machine shop and the tolerances and finish LOOK VERY NICE.

Can I post a picture to find out what I have got. There are about 8 of them.

Could use the advice.

I think the shop is called "JHB"?
It's in another section - Rotary Performance?

It's like $300 / $500 per rotor housing, IIRC.

Could these be Kevin Landers, aka ROTARY RESURRECTIONS long lost order of housings?

I purchased 8 refinished rotorhousings from JHB back in January and they never arrived. UPS lost them somewhere after they crossed into the US. They were supposedly in a large tupperware container. UPS denied ever finding them. Some of them would have been marked A and some B, these are different types of coating. They cost around $350 each.

I should clarify that myself and JHB have since reconciled most of the money lost. When a vendor ships an item, if the carrier screws up, that vendor (not the recipient) must go back through the appropriate channels set by the carrier to recoup their loss; the vendor must still satisfy the customer/recipient of their own accord in the meantime. JHB ultimately did this, after some gentle nudging I am not sure what liability UPS assumed, but that is between JHB and UPS.

After UPS pays out their insurance claim, the items (if found) are theirs to do with as they please, so if this dude bought them at an insurance salvage auction then he is incredibly lucky AND they are rightfully his.

The ultimate blame for all of this lies with UPS, since they a) lost a big *** package, b) took their sweet time in initiating a trace on the shipment, c) refused to "look for" the package once it was deemed lost, and d) was only interested in setting up an insurance claim, when all they would have had to do was place a few calls to the terminals along the route that the package would have taken to see if any package that size/description had been found.

Can you measure inside the housings to see how much was removed? I'd like to know how much the seal gap was increased, what seals you would run, and how they perform. Please keep us all informed!

Assuming they are the jhb housings, they should be to stock tolerances. I believe they grind down past the outer coating to bare metal, then cover it with the new coating, cermet I believe.
