how much more room could be had?
Looking at a stock 86 RX-7 n/a for a good price. Only problem is it's a bit of a tight fit in the drivers seat for me.
Has anyone ever slapped some aftermarket seats in and bolted them further back on the rail?
I'm about 6"2, so i need as much room as i can get!
any suggestions would be great, this is the only thing really holding me back from purchasing the car.
Thanks.
Adam.

The guy I bought my 88t2 from was 6' 11". He had put everything to original by the time I picked up the car. But he had taken out the rear bins, seat and built a custom rail set that bolted to the original locations. He then put the seat where he wanted it and secured it. It fit him the way he wanted AND was able put it back to stock without any problems.

I'm 6'2" as well and I went out and bought a F1spec Type II seat, that got me about 3/4 of an inch in the headroom department and then made myself some new seat rails that allowed me to mount the seat another 2 inches farther back so now I'm really comfy when I'm in the drivers seat. You're right though the stock rails and seats do not lend themselves well to tall(er) folks.

nice, thanks for all the replies. i'm mostly going to be needing legroom, and i need new seats because there is a piece of metal broken on one side, so one side of the drivers seat is completely loose
i am really looking into the car, and would be able to move the rails for the new seats easily as there is a small hole i will be dealing with at once. hopefully this will give me the extra bit of legroom for me to feel comfortable with.

Some guys actually Take the Stock seat and remove some of the Foam and insulation In the seat to give them More headroom without altering the Seat rails..Now,if you find that the Seat won't go back Far enough, you can always get a Piece of Flat stock, attach it to the top of the rail and bolt your seat further back that way. It's Cheap!.You will find that the Brackets for aftermarket Seats are Not.(Cheap.)

Change to sparco seats, they sit practically on the gnd, and buy a small racing wheel. Those both really help, maybe a adapter for your racing wheel too, so you can move the seat back an inch or two but have the steering wheel closer to you, momo can hook u up with that. Though the smaller steering wheel will make it harder to view your tach and speedo

I'm 6'3" and I think it's about perfect in my regular driving position. It's a different story when I've got my helmet on though (need to recline a lot to get my head in under the roof). Some thing that'll help are if you get an aftermarket wheel that's smaller and either have one with a lot of dish to it or get a spacer to move it closer to you, this allows for more recline and gives more knee room. I think it makes it a bunch more comfortable. Getting a car without a sunroof will give you a little extra headroom automatically.
If you're really serious about getting lower then a shell type racing seat (one piece non-reclining) mounted directly to the floor on side mounts will get you the most room. If you cur out the stock humps on the floor that'll get you another bit of headroom.
