how much mileage is too much?

I was wondering how many miles is too much?

I have had my RX7 since 93 and I have right over 300,000 miles on it.

It seems to run fine, beside the once in a while flooded engine, but I can always fix that with an oil change.

I have been changing the oil every 1000 miles since I have had the car, and I am not sure if this is the cause for the long life or not.

The car only smokes over 7500 rpm and I assume this is from the oil in the gas and an over active oil meter, hence the long life of the engine?

I always have used 10-30 Castrol and it comes out almost the same color as went in.

I always notice a power decrease right around 800 miles on the oil.

The car eats NGKs right around 12,000 miles or less.

The oil injection lines are clear and I use them to tell me when to change the oil.

I always put 2 stroke oil in the gas.

I drag race the car twice a week for the past 5 years.

My best 1/8 mile time to date is 9.8 @ 73.

My Quarter mile times suck, because they use Pro tree.

That best has been 15.4 @ 90. But I am sure I can lose at least a full second with some slicks.

Wow, 300,000 miles! Is it a S4 or S5? That is very impressive. Sounds like you take really good care of your car too. I don't think many cars with 300k can do the quarter mile in 15.4. Your question of how many miles is to many, well in your case obviously not 300k. Congratulations! I hope my N/A last that long, and still runs strong.

Isn't there some kind of record for most miles on a motor vehicle? I'm sure you're getting pretty close to it.

How bout some pics?

Thanks for the comments. The car is a 88 model, so I guess its a S4.

I really do take car of my car, I am always checking it, cleaning the engine, looking for other ways to make it faster.

I would tell you guys how fast I have had this car up to, but I don't think anyone would believe me.

But I will say, when I had it that fast I blew the speedo cable right of the transmission.

According to the speedo, it was about 1 inch past the last dash on the guage, and was almost facing straight down.

I just got a set of wheels from a Cosmo to put my slicks on, so I can change the wheels at the track.

I will post some new pics from the races tonight.

For now you can see the pics I have of 3 my cars.

I own the MP3 and the 2 RX7s. I also owna GLH-S, but no pictures up there yet.

Yeah but mine is on the original engine, if yours is too, that is great, that means I've got years left till I need to replace the engine.

seriously, as far as I can tell it is the original, but I am the 3rd owner.

the ironic thing is that my FD only lasted 120k miles before the rebuilt and I treat a hell of a lot better than this 86 GXL.

must be the turbos
