How much heat in the engine bay can affect power?

Ok, here my setup.
GXL swapped TII(s4)
stock turbo(with no heatshield) with ported wastegate, running 8psi, 3" streight exaust, 3" intake + HKS cone filter(the green one).
Everything related to emission is removed.

First, i always let my car come in the normal operating temperature range(160F-200F), then i start to beat the 7...
The first 20 minutes or so, it pull HARD, but after an hour or so, it start to get slower..., but my water temp is still in the normal operating range(160f-200f).

Is it possible that the power loss after a long run(45minutes or more), is only caused by the heat in the engine bay ? Caused by the turbo having no heatshield, and the downpipe not insulated?

What you think ?

Yes, the entire engine bay & intake manifold "heat sinks" after a bit, and you will notice a drop in power...

What is the best way to reduce "HEAT" in the engine bay ?

I guess some of them can be good, but wich one is the better?

- FMIC
- Heat shield on the turbo
- Insulated downpipe
- Kind of cold air intake

FMIC's if executed poorly can actually increase engine bay heat. Without proper ducting and a really strong fan they block flow the radiator and can increase temps. But an FMIC is the most effective way of reducing the intake charge temp.

yeah the two things would be fmic because after a time of boosting your temps are going to raise do to heatsoaked tmic. also you want a cold air intake because when your engine gets hot so does the air going into the intake of course reducing preformance.

Not to hijack your thread, hugo, but would header wrap be worth it to reduce underhood temps on an N/A?

no problem 1RevvinFC3S, i want to reduce heat, if it can help you. GOOD!

Ok guy! Is there any aftermarket heat shield over the stock turbo ? Cause when i swaped my engine in the GXL, the heatshield was TOO scrap to be re-used!
