How much have you put into your money pit AKA RX7?

I felt like making a new thread of "how much have you put in" so here it goes:
87 Sport- 2100
88 GTU- 1000
Sunroof/Bumper/Wing/Illumina/Tanabe- 500
DiffMount/Exhaust Manifold/Misc-100
Install of The Stuff- 500
Misc Parts- 400
Fixing Current Prob- 200
~4800

-400 For Selling Off parts

~4400

Then Insurance is 1800 A year (Being 16 Sucks, And I pay for everything)

And i'm still NA I feel bad, anyone else spend this much and still is NA? Mod list is in sig.

zeromage428 09-11-04 10:10 PM

thats how much ur insurance is damn, thats so cheap, i pay 2100 a year for my 97 mercury tracer!!! used to pay 3200 for a 99 kia sportage

Andrew. 09-11-04 10:13 PM

I guess its cheap, but I earn 6.75 an hour and all my money either goes to: Option 1- Fix FC, Option 2- Save For Insurance, Option 3- Mod FC, Never go out, every penny counts in this world.

Andrew. 09-11-04 10:18 PM

Btw heres my 88 GTU I bought, with the motor swap for 1K

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4285887897

And heres the 87 Sport I bought for 2.1K and it had a broken diff mount, was supposedly a GXL, bad exhaust manifold. But I got 4 TII Rims, 4 Silver GXL rims, 4 Black GXL Rims, RB Cat-Back Exhaust, Sparco Steering wheel and A lil sound system. I was young and stupid back in the day :(

i only payed for the rebuild to be done.

plus this was an 87 Sport model i tansformend to a T2 :)

91mazdarx7 09-11-04 10:45 PM

2,900 for my 91 n/a 500 for exhaust 100 for alternator 150 for fd alternator i need my car checked out bc i think the injectors need cleaned bc it stalls under hard braking revving it to redline and let it drop to idle it stalls sometimes ect and maybe 8,500 for a 89 black t2 in perfect condition and mildly modded

Tsuro 09-11-04 11:11 PM

Damn you get cars cheap although i think you earn less money or something?? cause 6.75 is probably below or around minimum wage here (otherwise known as 15 y.o working at mcdonalds)...

I'm about to import a car from japan (all up it's costing me around $8500 to get it here and on-road) car costs about $3,300 for a Series 5 '89 GT-X turbo, then the rest goes to shipping, tax, more tax, duties, and then rego/insurance/etc...

Only very very shit cars in Aust go for about 2,900. You'd probably only get a 1st gen for 2,900$ AU...

weird how it all works :P

Turblown 09-11-04 11:19 PM

hey you are only 16 right. hears my advice get a project if your car is your project thats good because no mater how much you dump into your car it is worth it. because when you are done with it you will be proud to have it and because it is yours and it is the only one like it. hey i 5 years or so when i am done with mine i will have a shit load of money in it and i doint care if i get my money back because if i dident have that car to spend my time and money on i would be a drunk and be broke any how doint take things for granted

bcty 09-12-04 12:30 PM

chris_stampe 09-12-04 02:23 PM

About 6 grand including the car. Its pretty built, ported, t4 turbo, fmic, microtech, suspension, rims/tires, somewhat shitty paint tho, And a still completely full bottle of nitrous in it(who needs that shit anyways)

capn 09-12-04 02:27 PM

Well i I have just gotten into my project

project fund:
88 SE ~ $500
all misc stuff so for alike fluids and whatnot ~$400~$500

so ive only had it about a month and @ 1000 bucks seems accurate but BELIEVE me it will be alot more

bcty 09-12-04 02:38 PM

1st car was a base 87n/a i built up over the years and in the last 3 weeks of owning it i pumped another 8G into it doing a swap and tons of other turbo crapola. Then 5 hours after the car got outta the bodyshop with a full repaint it got stolen and stripped and burned the frame.

4th car i bought with lots of money put into it and ive parked it for 8-9 months now and just been puttin mroe money into it.. should be back on the road in a few days.. im getting quite ancy :)

1RevvinFC3S 09-12-04 02:44 PM

Okay lets see here:
'90 GXL-$1900
Tag/Registration-$350
Insurance (annually)-$144
Clutch-$535
E-Fan- $FREEBY$
Header-Er, I think about $200
Spark Plugs & Racing wires- $FREEBY$
HKS Hi-Power Mufflers-$90 (eBay :D:D)

That bring me to a grand total of about $3,200. I plan on lots of mods in the future so I'll be sure to update the money pit's consumption.

adamlewis 09-12-04 02:45 PM

Dont want to count, but its between $10k and $20k

HAILERS 09-12-04 03:13 PM

Cars are a cheap hobby. Takeup windsurfing for a hobby and spend700-800 bucks for new sail each year (times at least three) and a new board every couple of years for 1500-2000 bucks. That does not count accessories

inflatablepets 09-12-04 03:34 PM

$500 89 GTU

$200 88 GXL

$700.00

$110- Sold 1 Set of S5 Tails

$50- Sold 2 bad engines

$30- Sold broken CD stereo

$40- Sold 1 set of fuel injectors.

$520.00 For a good running 89 GTU with a S4 Mazda Reman engine.

DelSlow 09-12-04 03:41 PM

Im afraid to count it up, from looking at some of the reciepts Ive invested over 10k in parts alone, but Ive also sold alot of stuff that I replaced. Doing EVERYTHING myself has saved me an unbelieveable amount of money. It doesnt even run right now, I have to buy a microtech and a few other parts...

s5fcdrifter 09-12-04 04:18 PM

well i bought my car for $400, spent 2k on a jspek motor, tranny, rear end, driveshaft and ecu. and just bought over 2k worth of aftermarket parts for it, and i still have to spend another 500 or so. and i havent even driven it yet since the day i bought it :( . . but it will be worth the wait when im done with it.. :)

My 86 base - $4000 in mods & upkeep just this year alone. I bought it 5-6 years ago for $2600. Great car, wouldn't trade it for anything except maybe a Ferrari 328. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif ( Like I can afford one of those ).

snub disphenoid 09-12-04 10:06 PM

Car - 2500
Wheels - 800
Toyo Proxes T1-S - 700 installed
JIC FLT-A2s - 1750
Springs and shocks - 700
Coilovers sold - -1000
Swaybars - 250
Rear camber adjustment - 120
DTSS eliminators - 60
Intake - 60
Header/Single cat - 500
HKS exhaust - 550
SAFCII - 350
Exedy Clutch - 250
RB Steel Flywheel - 350

Just with that crap listed - just $8000 or so

Now, on order are:
Supercharger kit - 3200
Fuel parts (4x720cc injectors, Walbro) - 550

So that puts it around $12000...I hate life. I need new tires soon, too.

Jeez, I forgot to add the seats, which were about 750 with the brackets and sliders...
Two strut braces as well. one that's a combination strut brace and engine torque dampener and a big Cusco 40mm one in the back, another 350 right there.

Eternal_Gamer 09-12-04 10:27 PM

Over $4500 on the new Jspec TII swap im doin on my 91 NA coupe. Spent money trying to fix the old NA too.

gugge 09-13-04 03:27 AM

~4500$ and are planing another 2000$

Andrew. 09-15-04 07:27 PM

Now I don't feel that bad for dumping so much :) Cooling problem is "fixed" not leaking or losing just smells probably burning off, but i'm running rich, but i'm getting that diagnosed for a case of mountain dew, lmao.

Some of us bought our cars way back when they were on dealer lots and came with the original factory warrantee. We skew the poll by having high original purchase prices and having done a ton of maintenance in the several hundred thousand miles we’ve gone in the past 15 or so years.

BklynRX7 11-16-04 03:43 AM

500 for body
