how much for an engine rebuild?

Ok i bought a 90gxl a couple months ago w/bad tranny. Got the tranny rebuilt buy a local shop. After a week the engine started smoking white and it keeps on stalling. I'll take a look at it this weekend for compression test and other stuff.

But how much would it cost for an engine rebuild? I got a friend whos very good with cars but have not worked on rotary. Would it be easier/cheaper just to throw in a new engine?

Would a turbo engine work with the N/A tranny?

Too generic a question...
If you're asking just to teardown, inspect, and replace all seals then we're talking anywhere from $1000 on up.
$1000 for labor + minimum amount of parts to replace, BUT all major internal parts needs to be reusable.
If a housing is junk, which is most likely in coolant seal failures, you're looking at more money to at least find a good used housing.

YES.

It can, but it is NOT recommended.

Ted, What is the cost of all the seals and springs??? I am about to tear open the motor, Lets say the oil seal on the shaft is bad but everything else was fine. What should be replaced (mandatory) and what should be just inspected. What is a ballpark for that kind of rebuild. Keep in mind I am doing most of the work. (appearantly there are some seals or bearings that need to be pressed into place, I need my local shop for that)

With Mazda parts, you're looking at a minimum of around $700 to $800.
Rotary Aviation makes a more economical kit, or you can just get their apex seal kit for under $200.
The RA basic rebuilt kit is like around $500?
