How Much Can I Sell My Car For?

I have an 86 rx-7 GXL and i was wondering how much I could sell it for...I'm Putting a Custom Paint job on it...black 16 in rims...i have series 5 tail lights which will be smoked....i have sound system that cost well over 1000 dollars...the engine is in good shape...the interior as well. I also have Neon Undercar lights...tinted windows modified headlight bulbs and a lot of other engine replacement parts to keep the car in good running shape...so i'm wondering how much can i get for it?

Thanx

Thanx for the feed back about how much I can sell my car for but I just have to make one comment. RICE is not undercar lights a nice sound system a paint job rims etc. The term rice was coined to put a label on those who put performance parts on their cars simply for show and not for the benifit of their cars performance. EX a spoiler that touches the sky, a 4 inch exhaust tip with no cat back etc. My car does not fall into place with that definition. Just something to think about...If my car is rice, half of this web site is...

You're correct! Half of this website is kinda rice. Well some people are. Your neon undercar lights are kinda gay, I don't personally like them. I like a nice sound system though, nothing with too much bass, but just something you can listen to clearly and nice. I got a little amp with a 10 inch sub and 4" back speakers. The system sounds great. I think you could get anywhere from $1500-$2500 depending on miles/location/how much it's worth to you. Good luck selling if you decide to.

It depends. you could sell it to a younger guy (kid) who thinks a NA has the potential to be faster than it ever will be or that he can just do a t2 swap. If I were you I would take out the stereo and sell that seperate because a rotary guy who wants a NA for handling does not want 400 pounds of speaker boxes in the back.

so Kid 3000
rotary guy 1500-2500 depending how good your "new" paint job is

if its green metal flake and had flames I would say that you would get a punch in the face before someone besides a Kid would pay extra for it. But thats just me

You guys really think performance stuff sells a car more than cosmetic mods? Go on ebay and look around. Nice looking cars sell far faster than cars that are fast. Why? Because 90% of the kids out there today care about having a car that turns heads to cruise around in and nothing else. Even though its an N/A, if it has nice wheels, paint, and a good looking interior then I bet you can get around $3500 for it on autotrader.

Underbody lights and a megga system are rice. I've seen underbody lights on a 7, and they are just shameful. The guy that put them on his car just drilled small pilot holes wherever and just screwed them into the body. Looks Like ****.

well... hmmm... 2ndGRx-7, how bout 5 bux for me to take it off your hands... lol jk! i think most of the rx7 guys in this forum are mostly concerned bout performance and reliability. and an rx7 is a car that actually performs. i think you should sell those neon lights and invest in something like headers for your 7 and appreciate it for what it is.

but newayz, how much would you people would offer if i was to sell my S5 that has a TII swap?

J-spec motor
2mm atkins seals
street ported
increased oil pressure
racing beat downpipe
apex'i safc
rx7.com's fuel cut defenser
750cc secondaries
aeromotive fpr
turbo xs manual boost controller
all vacumm lines are replaced with 100% silicon vacumm lines
apex gt spec exhaust
4 puck act clutch with heavy duty pressure plate kit on a nonturbo flywheel with a TII tranny
3rd gen fuel pump
drilled through and slotted front brake rotors

and as for asthetics... its pure crap almost... its bout to be prepped. and there are some more goodies that im putting on it. the motor is rebuilt with only a few miles on it so far... still in the break in procedure.

so if i were to sell it right now... how much would ne1 think i should ask for???

I recently bought a mostly-stock '86 GXL in excellent condition for $2000, seemed like a fair price to me.

*edit* I bought mine 200k on chassis, 40k on NEW motor for $350

Maybe undercar lights are not appealing to some but the purpose for me is that my whole car club has them so when we are on the freeway/meeting or whenever we stand out. I understand no one likes them and thats coo i'll prolly take them off to sell it. I honestly want between 4-6 grand for my car when its done...sounds imposible but i think it can be done...minumum 4 grand but if someone is willing to pay more for it i won't stop them...Quick question....Ive been debating what color to get...Nissan Burnt orange, Copper, smoke gray, silver, or black... the purpose is not to look like any other rx ive seen....Thanx

I bought my 89 GTUs with 79,000 miles for $1800. All stock, good tires, the paint was an 8 out of 10.

FYI: Stereo equipment DOES NOT add to the value of a car. If you want to get some of your investment back, pull the stereo and eBay it.

Average resale on a 86-88 GXL here in PA that is in mint condition is around $1500-2000. Cars that need work go in the $500-800 range.

A dark dark grey (graphite?) would be nifty.

The only way I see anyone paying 4-6 grand on a non-turbo FC is if it's low mileage, absolutely pristine inside and out (near showroom condition), and as close to stock as possible. On a car this old, a lot of modifications, particularly show mods, is more likely to lower the price as raise it.

These things are only worth a $2k on average.

Of course you are, as are most people in the RX7 Club. But we are not the majority.
