i finally finished this mod, and WOW the throttle feels awesome! very very smooth and i havent drove the car yet but throttle response feels like it will be greatly improved.. i ended up making about a 3/8th spacer and i used the stock cable bracket...i also removed an extra spacer from the throttle rod that i just took apart to swap the cable pull thingy. then i had to shorten the cable and i bought a really nice barrel nipple from feked.com that was identical to the stock one, i used some plumbers silver solder and a torch to solder it on and it was ready to go, piece of cake..

ill take some pics later today if i remember, its really nice to be able to use the stock bracket because it looks stock and it has the perfect holder cut out for the rubber grommet on the cable..im shocked how much smoother and faster the throttle feels.. i didnt think it would make much of a difference, i just wanted to do the mod to get rid of the ugly 6ft TII cable. I highly recommend everyone to do this mod.

Looks like the thermowax gets in the way of the cable, or at least the bracket. I don't see why you can't just go out and get a bicycle brake cable and some ferrules from a hardware store. Works just the same, you can make it whatever length you want, route it however you want, and no need to ditch the thermowax.

I went ahead and did this to save myself the trouble of having to replace throttle cable (also saved me $61.98 from not having to buy a new one). I did leave 90% of the thermowax system in place. The only thing I removed was the bracket and brass plunger deal that slows the butterflies down on the way to full closed (not even sure really what that thing does.. )JUst need to install the spacers I bought as I am using the OEM bracket.

Alright, I decided to go a slightly different route with my mounting method of the cable. I have tested the throttle and it works great, very smooth operation. I feel that the slight lateral pull will not effect anything substantially. My method is as follows:
Follow the directions above (except I did not do the TB mod) and then add an additional 3/8 spacer inbetween (i used a grade 8 nut) the TB and the end of the butterfly shaft. Slightly bend the throttle cable sling to slightly tilt toward the firewall. Mount the OEM throttle cable mount upside down sharing the mounting point for the clutch slave. Line up the cable with the slightly adjusted sling and then set your slack.
I decided to do it this way to avoid some clearance issues w/ running the topmount IC. If this does end up getting a sticky status at some point I would reccomend changing the title of the thread to something along the lines of "N/A throttle cable for T2 swap/front mount install" ect.

Interesting twist. I have a v-mount, but I won't be removing my thermowax either (not part of the TB mod anyway) so I might try it your way. Although that means actually installing my clutch mounting bracket (car didn't have one when I got it, and I haven't felt like bleeding the cluch since I've found one)...oh well.

Oh, one last thing.. When doing it my way if you are running a top mount you will have to either notch the bottom heat shield, or remove it on the TMIC. I opted to remove it.. drilled out the 4 rivets and set it to the side incase I ever want to re-install. Final product looks like this:
