The turbo trannies can take much more abuse than the N/A's Now, before someone yells at me - I said abuse, not power/torque. From what I understand, the NA tranny can take just under 300 lb ft. of torque before it's at it's limit. If you drive a formely NA car converted to a turbo motor with some mods the NA tranny will hold up just fine provided it's healthy and you don't drag race, launch, burnout etc... it's this kind of abuse that the NA tranny just won't take and most of them have covered a bunch of miles already. I went through about 1 a year for a while until I cut out the drag racing hehe

None out of either of my 88 NA's.
The 88 SE has broken it's shifter buching but that's external and easily fixed.
That one has 155k on it and is showing a slight grind ion the second gear syncro.
The 88 GTU has a bad 2nd gear syncro but ran perfect other than that. I just learned to double clutch and I was set!
These are on stock style clutches though.
I expect my TII tranny in the GTU to last quite a while. Probably longer than the NA rear end!
