I have 160.9 flywheel hp and 143 rwhp, on my 86 GLX, I dont see what I can do more than to port it and add some throttlebodys of some kind. I dont know for sure if 160 is about what you get from a gutted motor

LOL so would I, it really beats me how the tuners can say that you have 161 rwhp just from a chassisdyno??? Anyone

oh, I didn't see that you said without a turbo

Anyway, an N/A will never really be that fast. I mean, you can add some mods, but it just won't be the same.
Without opening the engine: you can port-match the intake manifold, get pineapple sleeves, nitrous, S-AFC (to lean out the mixture), and weight reduction are the major ones. If you open the engine you can do some nice porting work and get some real hp, but it may adversely affect driveability.
If you are really concerned with straight line power, sell the car and buy a TII. For a lot less money you can be going much faster.

I believe the useful info has already been posted. Unless anyone has something decent to add, please do not post.

Horsepower is a mathematical derivative of torque through the equation HP= Torque *rpm / 5252.

A chassis dyno is simply a large mass that your wheels have to accelerate. The dyno computer takes the time it takes to accelerate the large mass to calculate your torque, since it takes force to accelerate a mass, and torque is simply force over a distance.

From the torque numbers, the above equation is applied to find hp.

Flywheel hp is then found using a rough calculation based upon common drivetrain losses, usually 13-17%.

To get the exact flywheel hp, you would need an engine brake dyno. This occurs where you engine itself is strapped to a dyno, and a brake is applied to it. The force of the brake is the derived into flywheel hp, based upon the time it takes the engine to accelerate.

This is why flywheel hp is noted as bhp... because it is the engine brake hp.
