how long can an engine sit before it goes kaput
i just paid off my next engine and have a question....
its been sitting for atleast 3 weeks now already....(still in the previous owners car)
it will be atleast a month im sure before i have it in and running....
my question is how often do i have to turn this motor to keep the seals lubed up good?
im aware of how to turn it manually...so thats no problem....
i just need to know how often....
any response would be great
thanks

Hmm. Not sure about a new motor, but the used motor I got sat for like 6 months and it runs great! I also left it sitting for a few months recently and it fired up after cranking for 3 seconds. Didn't even have to charge the battery! (I left it disconnected while it sat.)

I just put in a J-SPEC engine into a friends GSL-SE, which was sitting for at least 4 years. The guy who had it put a little oil into the chambers, and rotated it a few times at least once a week. After we installed the engine, it had little problems firing up, and now idles and runs excellent.

Drain the coolant, and it can probably sit for over a month.
The reason they go bad after sitting is the oil control rings go out. Well, someone in the FD forum mentioned that Anti-Freeze EATS rubber (for lack of a better word @ the moment). So, drain it, and don't worry about it; it should be fine for a month or 2.

Seafaom is used to clean and lubricate injectors, valves on piston cars etc... popularly used to fog engines before storage. I read where it would do less damage than ATF. I used it on my boat for years. I had twin 427's in a 31' Bertram Sportfish.

It'll be fine.. I dropped a S5 J-Spec motor into my S5 TurboII and it was sitting for a while (the guy got like 3 at once and mine was I think the last one to move, plus time in shipping, plus time in port, plus time before it left Japan..) I just lubed the sucker up with ATF to clean any random crap (2-cycle oil might be a better idea, I dunno..)

Should there really be any anti-freeze by the oil control rings. If so, I made a booboo when I put mine on my rotors.
