How good are the Exedy clutches really?

I am talking about the ones sold on eBay (by Clutch City Online). I emailed them about specs but all they said was that it's "OEM-equivalent."

I have very light, bolt-on mods for my vert, but I tend to abuse the clutch a lot (doughnuts, burn-outs, skid-pad ****). Is the Exedy clutch good enough or should I get a "tougher" one?

I have also heard that SPEC makes quality clutches - can anyone confirm that?

Thanks...

Exedy brand clutches are "quality" clutches. Ther parent company...Daikin Clutch...is one of the largest clutch manufacturers (if not the largest) in the world.

Keep in mind that you need a clutch based on your particular application.

Exedy offers essentially three levels for their clutches.

1) Single Clutches. These are OEM equivalent. General price range that I've seen are $300+ (don't quote me on the price).
2) Hyper Single Clutches. These clutches are a combination of their single clutches and twin plate clutches. Without going too much into detail...it features an aluminum pressure plate and a steel flywheel. Essentially, this clutch comes w/ a steel flywheel. Able to withstand applications up to 400 - 450hp (depending). General pricing starts at...$900+
3) Multiplate Clutches. The twin plate is probably the more popular application, but they do offer a triple plate for select cars. These come w/ a chromoly steel flywheel. Able to withstand applications from 500 - 700hp. General pricing starts at around $1,600+

I know that you are saying that you tend to bit down on your clutch. How much power are you making??? For you,...

the Single Clutch series should be fine. Just make sure that you're releasing the clutch properly and replace the clutch and tranny fluids w/ "quality fluids" to help w/ the driveline shock and you will be fine.

I've never heard of anyone using "SPEC" clutches.

I know that Exedy make great clutches, but I was just wondering whether the basic line (OEM eq.) are any good.

Apparently a lot of 240 guys use SPEC clutches...but I don't know any RX7 drivers who use SPEC clutches, that's for sure. Is there anybody out there (pink floyd music follows )?

I am a former 240 guy. I've known them to have clutches from ACT, Clutch Masters, Center Force, etc.

The most popular by far being the ACT. Some guys are now trying the Exedy.

I've never heard of any 240 owner using SPEC clutches. (Then again, I sold my 240 1.5 years ago).

Anybody out there who owns an Exedy OEM-replacement clutch (or a SPEC clutch)?

I have an exedy OEM replacment in it, i like it so far, and it hasnt failed yet. The last clutch i had was a cheap *** replacment that had a whole marcel worth of friction material break off, so far this ones holding up nice, it has about the stock engagement feel. The one i got had rubber like bushing looking things where the springs shoud have been on the hub, either that or the springs were coverd by a rubber sheath., anyhow it seems to be a nice high quality clutch, ive probably only put 10k on it so far though, so long term durability i couldnt really tell you.
