How to get better gas mileage.
How to get better gas mileage.
Hey can anyone give me some tips on getting better gas mileage. And does it use less gas when you coast to a stop, or when you downshift? Right now I get about 15 mpg, it seems to fluctuate sometimes though. Can I expect anything better than that?
When you coast the engine goes back to idle and uses gas, but there is no fuel for decel so downshift. Also, if your n/a go unplug your secondary injectors
never get above 3800 rpms but thats the point lol

**** low, go slow, and do routine maintance, those three things are the key to good gas milage. I cost to a stop. Clutch in drops to idle and try to keep rolling forward at lest 5MPH or more that way you dont have to start going from a full stop.
Push the thing! What do you want, a civic? Drive the beast or sell it! Just my opinion, I just paid 3.09 today for gas, and I just got fired! **** it, other jobs, not cars!

I just recently got the best mileage ever in my 90 GTU. 17.6mpg and I had an exhaust leak. Just shift at 3k and drive in 5th alot. Engine brake as much as possible. Get a tune up and get an SAFC that should help a little too.
Timing will make a huge difference too. I checked my timing on the S4 n/a which was a little too backed off. I advanced it to just a hair past stock, and im getting 20 mpg in mixed hwy/city driving, about 2-3 mpg better than before. this is with full exhaust, no emissions, premixing, and 5th/6th ports wired open.
btw, I drove a tank with 5th/6th ports wired closed and only noticed a 1 mpg improvement

no i really did see this somewhere... i cant remember though, my roommate showed it to me, and at 90 you are at 3,500 almost exactly, well atleast in my roommates 86 sport, were doing a TII swap in another 7 so maybe its different in the turbo? im not sure ill tell you after the swap, but ill have him give me the site so i can post it here...
yeah an MSD ignition will help the longer spark will allow the gas in the chamber to combust more efficiently so you will get all the power out of the gas you put in instead of some being wasted into the exhaust...
My 91 Turbo at 70mph is 3 grand, my 88 Vert is about 2.7 ~ 2.8 grand at 70mph....rear-end gearing difference. I still think you need to do the basic stuff, tune up and all first. Then watch how you drive.
i have a ? wut all is included in a tune up for the rex's i changed my oil got all new spark plugs, got a new o2 sensor, and still gas is crazzzzzzy gay for me, still getting less then 9 mpg

make sure TPS is in adjustment/good. if i drive the car hard it will still get at least 22 at fill up. its never dipped below that. my engine also has good compression, so an older engine will probably get worse mileage. i think a good compression engine, and a good running engine is the most vital part of gas mileage. also my car weighs in the 2500's so that could make a difference.
