How fast at this RPM?

A friend and I, a long while back, were riding in his S5 n/a FC with just intake... We were going on a ~2 hour trip... And driving down the interstate around 90 just to make up for being a little late. Or assuming we were. I was talking about something, and casually glanced over at his side... I made a comment about it's funny how the passenger can't see how fast the car is going because the big tach is in the middle and the speedometer is shoved over to the side..... We were going at 5th.. And I don't know where this idea came from......

But I said something about "Why don't you take it up to 5k RPMs?(in 5th)." Don't know where it came from, was just bored. Actually I think it came from when he downshifted to 4th and was around 5K RPMs... And it just kinda came to mind to tell him to take it there in 5th.... He said he was in a hurry but not going to go that fast, plus traffic didn't allow it anyway. Though he didn't really know how fast that'd be since he never did it anyway.........

So I was wondering, and meant to ask long ago.... Because I'm sure several of you have done it before I've seen the threads about the top speeds you guys have gone in your n/a's About how fast would 5k RPMs in 5th gear be? Just wondering.

you really want to know? I'll go put my car on stands and get it in fifth... though I've got a 390, whereas he probably has a 410

Not if you're in your power band in 5th. *grin*

Yea, 5th isn't a lot of fun, but it's nice on the gas bill.

5k in 5th would probably be right about near where you'd run out of power. I'm not sure you could get it up that high in 5th - you might have to redline in 4th & upshift to see 5k.

What do you mean? I can put it in 5th at 3000 rpm and keep on the gas till I get up to 6500 rpm or higher. Even my N/A doesn't run out of steam. You might have a problem with your A/F ratios up high.

in 5th gear in my turbo it has no problems at all accellerating. I can be in 5th at 2500 rpms and it goes all the way up to 7000rpm. It doesn't pull like a **** but it pulls nicely.

5th gear with a turbo transmission is a lot shorter than an n/a transmission 5th.
