How fast do side and corner seals wear?

Do corner and side seals wear slower than apex seals? My corner and side seals are at about half life, so would they go before new apex seals? I imagine they would.

thanks

Much slower. Many times, they're not even replaced during rebuilds. You shouldn't worry about those seals going out before your apex seals do. There aren't too many engine failures related to side seals, and almost none related to corner seals. However, during a rebuild I recommend replacing them. They're cheap.

Here's some numbers to wrap your head around- on my rebuild, the apex seals (OEM) had worn 1.7mm in 186,000 miles, or .0091mm per thousand miles. The side seals were worn only .03mm (three hundreths of a mil), which is .0001 (one ten thousanth of a mil) per thousand miles. Pretty amazing, huh?
