How easy is it to do a non turbo to a turbo conversion?
How easy is it to do a non turbo to a turbo conversion?
I can't find any clean TII anymore and I'm just thinking of buying a non turbo and doing a conversion.
S5 non turbo to s5 turbo
I'm thinking it would cost $1500?
Is it just a simple engine swap?
Has anyone ever bought a JDM engine from Japan?
Thanks

Unless you can find a rolling chassis for next to nothing, you're better of just buying a turbo and rebuilding the engine. Buying a j-spec is very iffy. They are usually generally low milage, though you have no idea of the actual milage. The problem is that many of them have been sitting for years and the internal soft seals could be rotting for all you know. The only place I know of that is reliable and actually backs their engines is corksport. Most others will say the engine is good, but half the time when it gets to you its bad and they won't refund your money. Many people, myself included, recommend that you just plan on rebuilding a j-spec engine once you get it. They almost always make good cores for a rebuild. The engine itself is about 1200 from corksport, plus up to a couple hundred for shipping. Figure about a grand on top of that if you rebuild it with everything new, or 4-500 just replacing soft seals and gaskets.
Edit: J-spec and JDM are the same thing. JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market.
