how does a boost controler works?

As far as i can tell, it controls when the wastegate opens based on the manifold pressure.

It works with the TPS to confirm the engine is under load so timing & fuel map can be adjusted, and on S5 NA's the aux ports & VDI can be enabled.

On turbos, the ECU also uses the signal to cut fuel if boost gets too high.

An example: If the vacuum is near -.3 bar & the throttle is near closed, the ECU sees you are cruising and goes closed loop.

The wate gate is pushed open directly by manifold pressure.
The boost controller vents some of that pressure at low revs based on a map in the ECU.
I'm not positive, but I don't think the pressure sensor effects the stock boost controller.

Simply put..it regulates the amount of boost by adjusting what is "seen" by the ecu.
