I'm trying to get my times down...
so far my best run on the track was a 16.4 at 86 with a 2.4 60' time
I think I can get that down a little bit

will take advice from anyone but please trying to get more info from the 86-89 N/A guys w/o a lsd

what are you doing now? Is your car stock?
our cars do not have enough torque, so your best bet is to rev her up pretty high and not let the rpms ever get low.
there are several methods -
1. rev to 6K, drop clutch (not a good method, things tend to break)
2. rev to 6K and feather clutch to get going, then drop the clutch(also not a good method, clutches do not last very long)
3. rev to 3K and drop clutch(works well) - less wheel-spin is better
4. rev to 3.5-4K and feather clutch to get moving, then drop clutch(works well, but clutches do not last long)
I prefer method #3

My main method, that has got me my best 60' times of 2.3xx is to rev to 4000, then drop the clutch. Yes, you get wheel spin, but if you get enough, your rev's wont drop back below 3800, and you will clear first gear pretty fast.

on my car right now all I have is a bonez filter, replaced the intake tubing with PVC, header and pre-silencer. so not fully stock
most the time I either dump at 3-3.5k or feather... seems like the times for either is the same
when I pulled the 2.4 60´time I dumped the clutch at 5500 rpms... I h ad massive wheel hop though and spun through most of first it seemed
also for a drag launch is it better to have new tires with lots of tread or tires that are a little worn?

damn that is a very nice first launch!! My first was a 2.4. On Toyo Proxes FZ4, I launched at about 4 and dropped it. Not a very good 60ft. time, but I'm workin on it

Just dropping the clutch will not get you a good launch unless you have two things:
1) drag slicks or sticky tires that will not spin easily
2) A solid rear axle so you wont get wheel hop
You *may* get an *ok* launch from dropping the clutch at 4k rpms ( I personally just spin the tires and get wheelhop), but probably not. If you rev to 6k rpm and feather the clutch, your most likely going to fry the clutch. Just dropping the clutch is not the way to go with launching these cars. All that is going to do is spin the tires, and tires spinning= car not accelerating. I personally feel that the best way is to hold at about 4k rpm and quickly feather the clutch out. When I launch I get no spin, no wheel hop, and no bogging. Maybe a slight chirp and then Im gone

in my 86 TII I launch at about 6000rpm.
rev drop clutch, get spinning and kind of go sideways but it grips pretty fast and im up at 7500rpm in no time, i won't be able to get some good times until i replace the tranny though, 2nd gear syncro's are gone.

Next time at the track, I am gonna try slipping the clutch out fast. The last time I tried, my car had almost nothing done to it, and I pulled out of the hole sooooo slow. I think it will be a tad different this time.
