You can inspect it visually for external leaks, pay particular attention to the rubber boot, slide it off the the cylinder and look for signs of fluid in it.Then have a person in the car depress the clutch pedal while you observe the action of the push rod, when the pedal is depressed the push rod should move out of the cylinder typically about an inch or so.
Other than the above you can pull it ,dismantle and examine for distress and wear.

Thanks man
Yeah, i pulled the boot off yesterday and had my freind Nellie hit the clutch a few times while i felt around for fluid, nothing. I went on ahead and got a "Slave Cyl Rebuild Kit" from the auto store (i cant beleive they had that in stock.... what the hell?.. haha, no complaints here) it was only 4 something bucks so im going to go ahead and yank the Slave Cyl apart tonite and just go ahead and rebuild it. I was just asking if there were any quick tricks to avoid this, but i guess not, Thanks man.

when you pull the rubber boot off the slave, there should be fluid in the boot if it is leakin. you can check your master cylnder by pinching the rubber hose that goes to the slave with some visegrips and see if the clutch pedal moves down when depressed. if it does then your master is leaking.

The only other thing I can add is if you get around to rebuilding the slave or the master cylinders,in most cases it is worth running a honing tool down the cylinder to clean out any corrosion.I use the type you can get for doing drum brake cylinders, just put the tool in your drill and hey presto its a piece of cake.

I will be surprised if I can get through the summer with the one that is in my car right now. If you find some solid answers I'd like to hear them.
Thanks
