Hey guys. Thanks for answering my question.

I was just wondering if there is anything I need to do if I'm not going to drive the car for 6 weeks. I'm leaving for Indonesia and I'm not going to be able to drive the car. I'm storing my car at my mom's place and she said she's willing to start it up couple times a week. Would this help? Is there any treatment I need to put in my car? Is there anything at all? Thanks!!

 

I would honest just put some fuel stabilizer into the gas and mayyybeee do an oil change. 6 weeks isnt alot of time.

 

I have heard from alot of people it's better to let your 7 sit without starting it, than to start it for a few min. and then shut it off. I guess it has something to do with the condensation build up and could lead to rusting on the internals. Although 6 weeks isn't alot of time at all to store a car so I would have to go with SwiftTone's advice.

Also disconnect the battery, again I know it isn't a long time but hey better safe than sorry

Six weeks in Orange County? As in southern California? Just park it. Your car will be fine. I've done it. No stabilizer, no oil change, no worries about flat spotting the tires (although performance rubber will go thump-thump-thump for the first few miles). Lastly DO NOT let anyone start it and let it idle for a few minutes once a week or so while you're gone. You may flood it.

 

Park the car, remove the battery, charge it before you go to start the car, replace the battery, start the car. If you can, it's a good idea to turn it over without starting it (pull the injector fuse) every once and a while to get the oil moving around, and to keep the rotors from sitting in one spot.

One good thing to do is to have a full tank before you park it as it cuts down on condensation in the tank, therefore cuts down on ruting potential. Fuel stabiliser is a waste of money, my dad's stored cars over winter for 30+ years on and off and has never used any of it and has never had problems with old gas.

It's not a long store, don't worry about it. I stored my car two winters outside with no problems, using what I said before. With a long store it's good to change the oil, but I wouldn't worry about it in your case.

Hey jouslee, my advice is also with the other guys, just leave it. I had to leave my car for around 10 weeks, and wouldn't you know it, I also went to Indonesia (my wife is Indonesian), and all I had to do when I came back was to recharge the battery, and it started right up. Have fun on your trip!

You're correct. Pull the fuel pump relay and crank it over every few weeks, but don't start it. When you run it for a few minutes without getting everything fully up to temperature, you will add acidic condensation to your oil, your housing surfaces and your exhaust system, which will cause corrosion. You want to avoid having your seals stick to the housings, so turning it over without starting is the way to go.

 

6 weeks isn't that long - I wouldn't worry about cranking it over. I've let my FC sit longer than that in the winter when it was buried under 2' of snow, and it started just fine in the spring.
