How do I stop sqeaky belts?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows a good way to stop sqeaky belts. I put belt dressing on pretty regularly but it's no permenant fix. I've considered maybe sanding them smooth and repainting them, but I think the paint might wear off pretty quick. thanks for any suggestions.

A bar of soap to the belt with engine running worked well for me until I was able to pick up some new belts.

Get bew belts. Belt dressing is a temporary fix but doing it over and over will make the belt soft and more prone to snap. Just spend a few $$ and get new belts.

Just in case.........if your running without the airpump, expect the water pump belt to slip. If you have the airpump installed, disregard this post.

Yeah, if your belts are pretty good looking, i would get a duel alt pulley and run two belts on that. That way you have twice the belt power. Again, if you have your air pump, like Hailers said, disreguard this post. heh

A quick fix, if the belts don't actually need replacing, is to have the car running and pour a very small amount of oil ( 1/2 cap) on the belt as it's spinning. This works and is an old mechanics trick.

stick with stock belts as well. I seems the aftermarket ones like to squeek in the winter.
