Arrow How do I remove shifter extension housing from Tranny?

Ok guys I have a busted socket in the shifter on my s5 trannt that is otherwise good. I tried removing the engine with the shifter still in the tranny and drug the whole thing along the tunnel on the way out. This was about a year back.

Now I have an s4 na I am fixing a pilot bearing on. The tranny is messed as hell and is whining bad but the shifter is great.

I want to swap them.

From: Smiths Falls.(near Ottawa!.Mapquest IT!)
Pop the Surround off, with a Flat head screwdriver(put it under the Surround and POP!)
then lift the Rubber Donuts, you should see 3 10mm bolts..Undo those and Tug UP..Done.

do not want.

I am talking about the whole neck of the shifter housing, not just the shifter itself.

How about you just swap the whole tail housing. It's easier to take off than the extension housing alone. Undo the 6 bolts, lift and rotate slightly, and it's off.

Damn it is that easy? There is no shaft to pull out or anything? I tried my *** off at this with the last tranny that was out when trying to pull it. I ended up opening the cover where the shifter was at and the ball and spring fell out and rolled away, I just threw the tranny in the trash. I will take a look next time.

Yeah, it's very easy to take off. The output shaft just runs up through the middle and isn't connected to anything. And the control lever just tucks under the shift forks, which is why you have to rotate it a little to pull it off.
