how do i know if i need to clean out my catalystic converter(¿spelling?).


and how do u do it (if its not too hard to explain)

and what do i need ( a lift a regular jack or whatnot)

and with running straight pipes, what is it all about? i know i sound like a noob with this but i really am. sorry if i anger anyone

You can't really clean your cats. You can take a metal rod to them and "gut" them. Smash out all the honey comb that's in there. That makes them clean-ish.

 

Jack up one side of the car, put 2 jack stands under it. Now go under it and unbolt the cat (2 nuts per flange). Pull off the cat. Now take a giant screw driver and a hammer and beat the **** out of the inside catalyst until its broken into little pieces. Now shake cat above a garbage bag and watch it all fall out. Repeat until there is nothing left.

 

just take em out along with the rest of your emisions and you will be very happy!!

 

If you want to clean out your cats, I suggest a 1/2 hour of driving your car hard. The high-temperatures can sometimes allows the cat to do its job more efficiently, especially if you're trying to pass emissions.
