I would assume you can't unless it has a voltage-on lead. I believe most work on RPM input and some sort of a setting device. So you'd have to hook up to the trailing's signal or some interior duplicate signal.

why would you want to? stock shift light is based on vacuum, not rpm. if you want an aftermarket shift light, get one that works on its own, connected to the tach lead on the trailing coil.
your other option is to connect it to the shift buzzer in the dash, which will mean that it comes on at 7000 rpm (s4) if thats what you wanna do, pm me, i'll tell you where to solder the leads to
