How to disable the air that goes into the cat

Hey guys, I currently runs my car with 2 gutted cats. I am trying to shut off the air that goes to teh cat without jacking up the car and removing that pipe on the bottom. How do I do that from the top?

I'm pretty sure you just disconnect the belt that's attached to your air pump. It's directly in front of the exhaust manifold. Remove the belt, and that should take care of it. Do you have an aftermarket intake system, or are you still using the stock air-box?

If you want to keep your air pump running but want to cut off the air to the cat(split air in Mazda speak),the easiest way is to disconnect the switch at the bottom drivers side of the radiator.Just pull one or both connectors.

Aaah. Didn't know you had an 89-91. You could always run the VDI off of an RPM switch if you REALLY want to disable that air pump

SIX ROTORS..... not to be too argumenative, but when the water temp switch is disconnected does that not disable the *relief solenoid valve* and hence the relief valve in the acv causing the exaust on the acv to blow or relieve all the time? Is'nt the split air still active? Or is it inactive because the air is being *relieved*? Just curious.

There are 2 conditions for the secondary air injection to work normally(assuming there are no defects in the ACV):engine temperature above 50C and radiator temp above 15C.If either of these conditions are NOT met the vacuum signal to the switching valve remains ON.Air is not diverted to split air but goes to the port air passage. Also the relief valve stays open,as you say.You can check this by disconnecting the temperature switch and monitoring the vacuum signal to the switching valve. You should have a vacuum signal all the time.
