How determine car by VIN's

Well, I was looking through the autotrader.com and saw some basic listings and you can't tell what type of FC they are.

It pretty much shows a vin and year.

I was wondering how to differentiate cars by the VIN.

I know FB/FC/FD in the beginning, but is there a marker indicating TII and N/A's(SE,GTU,GXL,Base)?

I see most RX's start (make,then 33)ex. FC33,FB33.

anyone know?
I want to know so I can look for TII's in the basic listings without calling the bastards.

Man I just covered this like tuesday or wendsday this week.:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=158217

Ahhh man, do we have to go through how to read a VIN again???

okay... one more time:

1st digit: manufacturing country:
J=Japan,
1=USA,
2= Canada,
4=USA,
K=Korea,
L=Tiawan.

2nd digit: Manufacturing company:
F=ford,
M=Mazda Japan Hiroshima (Toyo Koygo),
Y=Mazda of America.

3rd digit: Vehicle/production line Type:
V=passenger car,
1=Passenger car Japan,
2=Truck,
3=multi-purpose vehicle.

4th and 5th Digit: Model:
FB=RX-7,
FC=RX-7,
FD=RX-7,
NA=Miata,
UF=B2000/B2200/B2600,
etc.

6th and 7th digit: Body style:
31=2door coupe,
32=2 door coupe turbo,
33=RX-7,
34=convertible turbo,
35=convertible.
(intresting to see that Mazda North America did register the vert both in Turbo and NA form)

8th digit: misc code (seat belt type/air bag/engine etc):
1= coupe,
2= turbo,
3= coupe w/o auto should belt,
4= turbo w/o auto should belt
(note that these are not consistent, for example a S5 'vert without airbag will also have a 1, and a S5 'vert with airbag will have a 2).

9th digit: check digit

10th digit: year:
G=86,
H=87,
J=88,
K=89,
L=1990,
M=1991,
N= 1992,
P= 1993,
R=1994,
S=1995,
etc.
(note that o and i and q and other digits that can be mistaken for numbers are not used).

11th digit: Final assembly plant:
0= Hiroshima,
0= Hofu,
5= Flatrock,
U= Louisville.

12th through 17th digit: serial number:
(coupes)
1986=100001- 200000
1987= 500001- 600000
1988= 600001- 700000
1989= 700001- 800000
1990= 800001- 900000
1991= 900001- 950000

(verts)
1988= 100001- 200000
etc.

Mazda's internal designations for the 747 production was FC3S for the coupes and FC3C for the 'verts.
