How can I tell..........

I have an 86 Gxl and my car has 193k on the motor. It pulls very hard, very smooth through out the power band, no complains at all. My question is there any way of telling if the motor was rebuilt? On the front cover I see some writing in black marker. I just can't believe what good condition the motor is in

do a compression test. Higher than normal numbers could indicate a rebuild in the past.

Does it really matter? If it runs great, quit worrying and go drive it instead of posting on here.

+1 for the compression test. I've seen NA's go over 200k on the stock motor, but most have lower compression by then and the power isnt great.

also if it was recently rebuilt you can see the oil lines will be clear or almost clear, not yellowed and nasty

mine are pink! (the hoses are pink, but still transparent) with around 70K on a rebuild.
