Question How Can I Get Faster Of The Line !!

Okay guys need a little advice here I just fixed my had a hes problem due to bad injector resistors . Anyway I went for a ride car ran great got to a stop light and this guy in a late 90's taurus says man this car can get up refering to his car . Then he says you ready to get on them I said YEAH !! . Well sad to say he beat me off the line and was ahead by at least 3 car lengths . I would have past hime but there was not enough road . I GOT BEAT BY A FORD TAURUS !!!

I want to know what I can do to get my car off the line quicker . I havent done a whole lot but I will name it all

86 N/A , K&N air filter kit , New upper and lower intake gaskets , new injectors , new fuel pump , new fuel filter , New TPS re-grounded everything under the hood and at the ECU , new sparks and wires oil change coolant, new struts all around and two lower ball joints . I have put a little time into this car

Any suggestions

I am already trying to get a RB exhaust system anything else ?

exhaust will help make some more power but I think main thing to do here is practice launching your car from a dead stop. My N/A would beat just about anything that wasn't AWD through at least 2nd gear.

I'll agree, there is always the chance that you launched off bad. But I'd say to get off the line faster. A turbo :p

Sticky tires will help. Add an aftermarket clutch.

Getting off quick takes some practice and a bad launch will kill you. I have an 85 GSL-SE with a TII motor and if I take it easy and let the other guy get ahead, it takes a little while to catch back up, even though he is in a 89 T/A with an auto. I have alot faster car, but the launch is key on the street with 40 mph speed limits.

Also, a little clutch slip can go a long way. Dumping the clutch and slipping it from the same RPM can be the difference between a fast launch and alot of tire squel and white smoke.

non turbos have no low end. I got beat by my bros saturn sL1 and takeoff. Caught up in third. So dont feel bad not the only one here. A lighter flywheel will help alot though

LSD maybe (4.38 out of a GXL, but will lower gas milage and may shorten engine life with the higher RPM), good exhaust, make a CIA, phat plugwires, good tires and wheels that are as light as posible. i had my stock 87 tII wheels (they have got to wheigh like 50lbs ea.) on and i swiched to aluminum gtu wheels and i could instantly feel the differnce.

Performance tires/wider tires, lightweight flywheel, stage1 clutch, and a Limited Slip!
People will be like, "daaaaammn, that fool can launch!"

Taurus 0-60: a little under 9 seconds.
s4 N/A 0-60: a little under 8 seconds.

Fix your car and/or learn to drive. A couple seconds of hesitation and/or stuff in poor condition could have made the difference.

After that: flywheel, weight reduction, and all the horsepower items of course. The s5's VDI doesn't add much power but it'll help down low.

change the gearing ratios, better tyres, better clutch and launch at higher revs

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. Late 90's Taurus's aren't all that slow. My mom's 99 SE with the DOHC Duratec engine ran 16.3's in the quarter mile. You ask how I know. My dad's Camaro broke one night so he ran the Taurus instead. According to Car-Videos.com, a 86 GXL runs 16.1 in the 1/4. Not much of a difference and one where the launch could easily determine the race.

"LSD maybe (4.38 out of a GXL..."

That's wrong, first it's the GTUs that came with the different ratio, and second, it's a 4.33:1. You can get other ratios too, there's a really rare 4.44:1, a 4.88:1 and a 5.12:1. The latter are all custom made from an FB pinion welded to an FC pinion shaft using the FB ring. Road racers use them all the time, occasionally tehy go up for sale.
