How to adjust mixture.
Is it realatively easy to adjust the mixture on a n/a. My idle is very rough a fluctuates between 550 and 800 or so. I read somewhere on here that a guy adjusted his mixture and it fixed his rough idle problem. Can anyone describe what to do? Thanks for the help.
Oh heck yeah, it's real easy! First requirement, the TPS adjustment must be correct. Check with the car fully warmed up, if you check resistance, it should be about 1Kohm. If you check voltage, it should be approx. 1 volt. If you use light bulbs, one should be off and one should be on. Pick your method, it doesn't matter, except that no idle adjustment can be done if the TPS is not set correctly.
OK, assuming it is set correctly, jumper the initial set coupler. It is located on the drivers side toward the front, and is either a 2-wire or 1-wire connector. If it is 2-wire, jumper it. If it is one wire, connect it to gound (my son likes to use the negative terminal on the battery, it is the ultimate ground!). Start the car, adjust the idle to 800 rpm (bac valve). Now, very slowly turn the screw (turn a little bit, wait for idle to stabilize, check) with a r--L on it until you find the point where you have the highest idle. Adjust idle down (bac valve) to 750 rpm, turn off engine, pull jumper, and you are done! Have fun!
