Cool Hot Exhaust (Root Cause) Help

My 91 Conv. runs extremely hot. So hot that I keep burning out the gaskets between the flanges from the manifold back. The nuts fall off the bolts even with LockTite.. all from the heat. I can't sneak up on my girlfriend because she can hear me coming with my loud exhaust leak. I plan to replace the damaged exhaust system, but I need to know what I should do to keep this from repeating itself. What can I do to reduce the source of the heat.

I had the same problem, change your plugs and wires, these cars have realy hot exaust to start with but the leaner the car runs the hotter the exaust will be. If that dosent work try to find the gasket with the steel ring around it.

cheap gaskets will blow out, nuts will fall off if there is no retainers or lock washers, the exhaust will get hot.

welcome to the wonderful world of the rotary!

My plugs and wires are new. How do I change the lean/rich mix on my car to make it run cooler? my engine temp guage is always normal, but my exhaust is a scorcher. I'm thinking of adding headers to eliminate the mating joints after the manifold. If I can't stop the heat then I must get parts that can endure without cooking.
Any ideas?

plugs will have no effect on your air/fuel ratio. In fact newer plugs should cause a more complete combustion, making your exhaust gas hotter. Rotary exhuast is a bit hotter than that of a piston engine, just get some good composite gaskets from racing beat. But if you are running a cat and its clogged, that could cause the heat to stay bottled up.
