Horrible NOISE from Rear End...

So just yesterday I drove to a friends, and when I left I heard it for the first time....

Right as I let out the clutch completely and transition to all throttle, there is a VERY LOUD BANG that seems to be coming from the rear end. This will do it in every gear unless I gently and very slowly work the clutch and throttle.

I have yet to get under he car, (am going to do that now) but its very prominent. and seems to maybe have more vibration on the right side..
I have no clue what Im getting into with this but am going to check...

Any clues or experience with these symptoms?????????

I would like to think so, but just did some driving tests...

Noise is never made when clutch is pushed. Never heard over bumps or potholes, etc...

It happens also when I let off the gas and then press it to accelerate again when not using the clutch. also, just pulled into my friends garage and in first at like 4 mph there was an obvious grinding sound when turning in...

*now I have an 86 gxl w/ lsd* Sounds like its something INSIDE and not a mount...

more ideas/oppinions?

So even with all the extra symptoms and even with it grinding when turning slowly it STILL sounds like a broken diff mount???

Heres a pic I just took... The part that has the four bolts near the side of the pumpkin seems loose. Not sure how much play it should have but I can move it around a little when I grab the rubber boot or around there.. more on that end b/c it doesnt move near the wheel.

The diff mount is located right outside the pic up above right? I dont see any issues.

you broke the FRONT differential mount, which can be found here
http://www.mazdatrix.com/g8.htm

in this picture, you cant see it, but its behind the circle on the other side off the differential.

look it up in the factory service manual so you can understand what/where it is

I've would suspect its actually the tab on the subframe that has sheared... not the front diff mount itself.

Take a look-see. Grab the pinion end of the diff and push it up and down.

If this is the case, you can weld a U-bolt over the front end of the diff an to the frame or replace the subframe.

The rubber block that seems to be the mount itself is in two pieces...

This was taken from the drivers side rear of the car facing the front of the car.
Is this that rubber block thats part of the diff mount?

I dont want to order that diff mount if its not it b/c its not as cheap as I expected.

Busted front diff mount. The rubber should be connected and it it not. Do you have a aftermarket clutch? If so, save up for the comp mount. If not I have my old one from when I broke my sub frame and thought it was the mount. Turned out to be the tab. So I swapped a comp mount it and still have a good stocker. Come to think of it I have 2. BTW look at the pic. that is a good mount see the MAJOR difference!

for some reason, isnt the comp one on mazdatrix's site actually cheaper?

I just need a replacement soon and I dont want it to be a used one. I want to make sure Im only doing this once. (or at least once every few years)

PM me as to what you have that will work for me, and if you have that comp mount...

just get the competition one but if you get the stock one it will work fine remember our cars are around 20 years old (mines turning 20 in august) and the mounts break because of normale wear and tear the stockers should last 100k miles. the reason why the comp mounts are cheaper because the stock ones are sold by mazda, and well we know oem is usually more expensive especially when it comes to suspension components

im only saying this because if your taking it to someplace to get your work done they might not be able to get a diff mount in an ample time while you can probably get the stock one next day.

hope that helps man

The price difference is minimal....
Im going to look at diff auto parts places to see if I can get it quick if not ill order off mazdatrix or what not....

Whats the major difference between the stock replacement and the comp one... other than that other block not being there.

Just get the competition mounts. After installing an LSD in my RX-7 I wound up breaking 3 differential mounts, at different times, and two axles (due to the mounts dropping the diff lower than the halfshaft could rotate), before getting the competition mounts.

I've had no problems since, and the car has seen an Auto-X event and the occasional street race.

EDIT: These were for the rear, on the diff cover, not the front.

alright guys.. the comp. mount came in...

Can someone show me pics and go in depth with how to lower the subframe, what all bolts need to be touched and what removed, etc...

I searched and everything is just a bit too vague for me to get in there...
