Hopeless in Ohio

I have a 1987 N/A that got limited use but would always fire
right up. One Sunday, I took it for a drive, parked it and it
hasn't started since. I've tried the unflooding procedure three times and it hasn't helped. On start up it fires for a split second and then cranks like it's flooded. The car has always run very strong until this problem started. It has good spark, it just won't start. Any suggestions? Due to a medical problem, my ability to work on it is limited, but it's killing me to just let it sit there.

Thanks

Gerard

try cranking it and as soon as it tries to start PUNCH THE GAS!.. or feather the gas to get it to keep running. my assumption is that it is fubar flooded and you will need to keep doing it over and over again. i have had this happen to me and it took a full hour of the egi comp fuse, etc to get it to run! if its completely flooded you may need a good atf treatment down the spark plugs.

if you need help let me know, i may be able to come and look at it with you. im in mentor, oh and toledo, oh all the time.

This could be something like a piece of grit stopping an injector from closing properly. Residual pressure in the fuel system would keep pushing fuel past it.
Relieve the pressure in the fuel system (a fuel pump kill switch would help a lot for this procedure), then remove the plugs and crank it to clear out all the fuel. Then squirt a small amount of AFT into the lower plug holes and reinstall the plugs. With the pump switch off, crank it for a few seconds to restore compression then flip the switch. It should fire up.
But there's no guarantee it won't just flood the next time, so I'd pull the injectors (or get someone else to) and get them professionally cleaned. And get a new fuel filter.

My first step was to try the unflooding procedure and then
did the ATF trick, no luck. I always do that before posting, but usually it was a problem with the RX-7 I sold. This one
never showed any signs of having the leaky injector problem even when my wife "short started" it a few times. Then one day it just stopped starting. A little more background, even after doing the unflooding, the spark plugs are soaked with gas if I remove them. The flooding seems almost immediate. Oddly enough, unpluging the fuel pump didn't help.

I missed the part about something possible keeping the
injector open. I'll give that a try.
