"hold" light on dash, what does this mean?
i just bought my first rx7 1990,auto.the transmission doesn't work very good.ant the hold light on the dash flashes, what does this mean.i'm a mechanic, and i've always worked on and owned hondas, this is my first rotary rwd.let me know what you think.
In general, in case you don't know, the "hold" feature of an automatic is there to "lock" the transmission in gear... But from what I recall (it's been a few years since I drove a car with an auto and hold), it will only lock it in the gear next to the highest.. if you have a 4 speed gearbox, it will cause it to not go into 4th, keeping you in third. .

But that isn't the answer to the question
As described, if you press the HOLD button the Hold light lights in a constant way and the grear will lock in place.
BUT, the real issue is that you say the HOLD light is FLASHING. That is a warning that there is an electrical malfunction talking to your transmission. Could be something as simple as your speedometer isn't operating (the auto tranny looks for a signal from the speed sensor in the speedo), or a bad sensor on the tranny itself.
Is the tranny operating properly??
