so this is a prob i have had for a while now. i asked before and i heard that the 91's have problems with baffles? next thing is i had no idea what the hell that is lol, so i asked again guy said it was these metal things in the gas tank that keep gas from sloshing. so i also heard that when you turn sharp or when ur driftin that you want more than a half a tank of gas to make sure your not takin in air and to make sure your car is playing frogger...so the other day i had a full tank of gas 5 mins down the road im takin a roundabout and fuel cuts out, starts jerkin, finally get her straight and is stops. i really wanna figure it out now cuz its become a hazard to my health and i dont wanna be jerkin on icy roads lol. any ideas? thank you

 

Replace the fuel filter "sock" on the fuel pump in the tank. My car did the same thing, that fixed it. It's a pretty common problem, a search would have revealed the answer.

 

ive done that before replaced the fuel filter and i pulled the pump out to check the sock and it was clean, not clogged. so im not sure whats goin on, ill try and search, ive dont that before though lol.

 

The other reason it might do that is if the internal baffles are rusted out. Its weird that it does it at basically a full tank, but I dunno. Also, the baffles are the metal things inside the tank that keep the fuel from sloshing around. I've never hear of another cause of this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Maybe someone else has more ideas.

 

Mine looked fairly clean too, but it was still causing the problem. Just replace it, they only cost a few $ and takes a few minutes. If it's with a full tank then it's NOT POSSIBLE that it's the baffles, unless you're driving upside down or something.

What happens is the plastic "shell" of the filter looses its structural integrity and when the gas sloshes about it pulls the filter onto the pickup, severely restricting flow. It doesn't have to be clogged for it to be the problem.

I too was skeptical, untill I replaced it and the problem disappeared.

 

I also fixed that problem on my GTU by replacing the low pressure filter in the tank (aka, fuel sock).

 

ok ill make a run to the parts store tommaro then. thank you guys i appreciate all the advice. hopefully its just the sock :P
