Arrow Hmm...how many Horns do we have?

I was discussing this with Aaron Cake. It seems that I have 3 of them (bastardized 88 GXL ) and he has 2 of them on his (raped 86 Base).

Was Mazda adding/subtracting Horns over the course of the build? FWIW, I have 2 above the Oil Cooler and one where It's now hitting my FMIC Intercooler. It's Infront of the Overfill Tank. We know that the alarm Is mono-tone as Is the Horn - so why 3 of them?

And the other 2 for the Horn? Kinda like a back one should the primary fail?

If so, what about Mr. Cakes? Is he counting wrong or Is standard to have 3 Horns on the FC?

I know...abit of a silly topic but I'd like to know.

Not all FC's had a security system(read= base se sport etc) so they only had 2 but those cars that did have one had all three. I beleive both regular horns are used at the same time. Its not a backup or failsafe system AFAIK.

Good point. No alarms on Bases. I thought that they did...atleast Aaron should have when I told him I blew the diaphrams of my 3 Horns when I glass beaded them. I guess I caught him off guard. lol

I understand that both the Horn and the Alarm are mono-toned...how can this be?

No one likes horns? Exactly how do you justify this slightly ridiculous statement?

Silverrotor, check out the pic on page 15-111 of the FSM Body Electrical chapter.

After spending some quality time with my 91 S5 N/A, I can say that mine had two horns. One hides behind the coolant tank above the bumper beam and the other below, though there is a tab for another one below. Mine has the factory security system, but it only worked the regular "upper" horn.

I replaced the dead one below with two loud (125 Db ea) horns and kept the stock one behind the coolant tank. Now when I hit the horn, people pay attention!

It's a warning device! You're not necessarily supposed to like the sound. It wouldn't be much use if it played pleasant music instead would it...

Its a ticketable offense in IL to not have a functioning horn, but so is not having a front mounted license plate.

Check the victoria british catalog if your serious. I have seen a multi programable horn on there that has a bunch of sounds.

I seem to recall that when my alarm was going off incessantly due to it being broken, that it was louder than my normal horn. Any substance to this? How hard would it be to hook the third one up to the other two?

Well ya, thats true, I've never had to use my horn, but I know its there for a reason. I could have taken my horn out when I was removing various things for weight reduction on my car, but I left it just in case that one time my arise when I will need it. Anyway, I was just joking to begin with, I should have used a damn smiley.

Ahh, I forgot Aaron has an air compressor charged Horn setup...perhaps his setup clouded his reply and In turn - messed me up. I dunno. I'm one up on him I guess.
