Hm... fix, sell, scrap, or race? (86 base parts car)

htttp://photos.sevarg.net/russ/partscar/

Basically, an 86 base I picked up for next to nothing as a parts car. The engine is blown (rear rotor), and in the back of my parts hauler (it had already been pulled).

The frame is in pretty good shape - some light rust damage and bent up wheel well corners, but overall for a 18 year old car it's quite nice.

I've been parting it out, and it came to me mostly gutted. I'm trying to decide what to do with it - I hate the idea of putting a good chassis in the scrap yard, but I haven't had tremendous luck finding anyone who wants it.

Options I see:
Fix it up to "daily driver" status - not likely. Missing a lot of parts, the dash is in horrible condition, no radio, etc.
Fix it up to "race" condition. Gut the rest of the interior, chop the dash to just the driver's side, make it light, and use it for autox/track. The problem I see with this is that it's the 4-lug suspension, so I have tires that like to roll fairly far over, and I don't have great brakes anyway.
Sell the chassis: Preferred, but I'm having a hard time finding a buyer, and I really have no way to move it any distance.
Scrap the chassis: Eh. If it were beat up or badly rusted, I'd have no problems, but... it's not half bad!
FC Trailer: I've seen a picture of this, somewhere. Basically chop it in half, block off the opening (and/or put a tire rack in), mount a tongue on it, and use it as a spiffy looking trailer. This is, right now, beyond my skills (with the welding and such).

Ideas/comments/suggestions?

I had the same issue. It became a parts car.

A base model is not worth the work to get it working IMO.

If the body is in great (minty) shape, look for a car with a junked body to grab the drivetrain/interior from.

I'd sell it or cube it if you're done with it.

I honestly cant even give most of these away, no one even takes them for free. I have to get them cubed. :/

I think I may have found someone who wants it... not 100% yet, but at least possible.

The problem with swapping parts into it is that I only have a single car garage - and the parking lot behind the apartment is already annoyingly full (partly my fault).

this is probably the trailer you were referring to... it's a first gen, but it would be a cool idea...

Yup. That's it. I just saw a small image at one point ages ago, and didn't look too closely at it.

Thanks!

someone has to want it for a track car or a drag car... the benefit for that plan is that its already gutted somewhat and its a lightweight base model. there are enough T2's being parted out that you can find a 5lug swap and beefier rear end for it without much searching.

if you were closer I'd pick it up to do an autox/track machine... I love the '86-'88 base models, but IA is too far from NY. if you could handle it becoming a V8 swapped FC, then maybe you can find a buyer for it as the V8 swap is becoming more common and at least that will save it from the scrap heap or the crusher!!!
try posting it on www.torquecentral.com or ebay, you mgiht have better luck than on here. the $2005 challenge could be a future for this shell too.

I've found someone who might be interested, we're discussing it.

I debated doing a TII swap into it, which would rule, but I just don't have the money right now, and my garage needs to be cleared for some other things (like fixing the oil **** on my Subaru).

Much as I don't care for piston engines in RX-7s, I'd rather let it have a piston engine than be crushed.
