I'm considering buying a used HKS BOV like the one in the picture below. Does anyone know how loud these things are and if they are prone to dying? I know it looks a bit skanky but my budget is pretty minimal .

as long as the seal is still ok and it doesn't leak boost ur fine

i don't know if that particular model is "rebuildable"

how much boost do u plan on running? if its stock turbo and almost stock everything u should be fine...

loudness is a by product of a BOV, not the reason to buy one.. and for the record unless ur running MAP sensor, u really should be recirculating and not venting to atmosphere unless u don't mind bogging and running super rich between shifts

 

I've never heard this before. Has anyone else experienced problems caused by BOVs in an otherwise stock set up?

 

not sure about the bogging bit but yes it does run rich. air meter reads the air coming in, but as it is blown out of the system the mix does get rich.... can be a good thing if you like backfires and slight flame during shifts.

 

not worth it in my opinion. Why chance a old banged up bov ripped of a junk yard car to work and save your engine. Let the honda boys buy this ****

 

i have one of those BOV's.

I really like it IMO. Had no problems with it so far.

As for the sound, i really like it.

Very nice sound, not too loud.

My bro got one a while ago. Yeah the seal was bad he had to send it back (to Japan) it took a while to get a replacement. He got a Blitz instead of the HKS. Im not a big fan of HKS.

 

i have an even older school hks BOV. the kind that looks liek a hockey puck with a hole in the side. it still works fine so i trust hks. dont ask me to sell it though, because i havnt seen anyone else with one yet and i like the sound a lot.

 

i have an HKS just the next step newer than yours. looks similar but with a different valve. it's broken tho, there's a plastic piece inside that the two valves slide on. can prolly order it for cheap. i'll give the dang thing too you after i buy a new bov. i'm currently running bovless. well, it's on, just not hooked up to vacuum source.

 

BOV's don't usually die, except for that piece of **** Blitz one.
