I had a gas leak from the PD on my '86 nonturbo. Got a new PD and put it in today. After i've put everything back on (intake manifold, vacuum lines, etc..), i heard some kind of rattling (or hissing) noise coming out of the engine. I cant quite tell where exactly it is coming from. The car runs fine (no more gas smell!), but i'm really puzzled by this noise. It is pretty noticeable under open hood. It isnt that bad under closed hood. But the noise hadn't been there before, so i'm wondering what could have happened.

PS: My friend speculates it could be a leaking vacuum line ??

 

Vaccum leak. Take carb cleaner, or any propellant or cleaner, and spray around the engine w/ it running. The goal is to get the engine to surge. It does this b/c the engine draws in the gas from a leak or missed vaccum hose and causes the engine to rev for a moment. If you get this to happen, vaccum leak! Good luck, and take your time!
