Higher output alternator for my S4?

I have a pretty large stereo setup in my FC (cd player, eq, component sets, 2 10" subs, 2 amps, cap) and now an electric fan. I can definitely feel the load from the e-fan now.....so, is there any alternative to get more power from my alternator?

Bigger rebuild available?

Go to www.teamfc3s.org search for fd alts. there is a guy selling everything needed on there to replace your alt. They are fairly priced and everyone seems to be happy with them..

I've got the fd alternator in my s4. Worthwhile upgrade, but sometimes the s6 alternator can drain a battery on the s4. I had to wire a relay in to turn off the voltage regulator otherwise I'd drain my battery in 24 hrs.

I got a reman alternator from Advance Auto Parts for around $100. It is an S4 TII alternator. The spec sheet says the maximum output is 107 amps @ 6000 rpm (67amps@ 2000 rpm!). I dont know if this is faster or slower than engine rpm, but it seems pretty good.

just out of curiousity how much work would it be to swap a chevy alt over onto this car?

I know they are cheap and easy to come across

also wanked FC why would the FD alt cause your batt to drain?
figured if anything it would be more stable then the FC alt

The way the s6 alternator circuit is designed, the inline relay to disconnect the voltage regualator never shuts off. I had to add a relay to shut off the regulator when the cars off.

Any word on the excessive amperage guy? I am not all that impressed with the website (I could throw that together in 5 min on a coffee break).

Plus he has no email contact info and half the pics aren't working (at least for me).

Did he rebuild your stock alternator or did you just purchase a larger one from him?

I am looking into the chevy alternator idea, my father has a half dozen of them laying around the shop and the local junkyard must have a couple hundred, some needing rebuild and others in good shape.

Maybe I can make a business out of it....some spare cash to finish the mods to my FC, on your guys dime.

If memory serves correctly, chevy alternator spin in the opposite direction of a rotary. I can check my suburban and my brother's cavalier in the morning. But i think they are the opposite direction of the 7.

Yes, their Is...

Just so you know, the S4 Alternator has an Internal Relay that disconnects the Internal Diodes from the Battery when the Engine is off. The S5 Alternator does not have this feature. Therefore, S5 owners have no relevance to the relay, should they decide to add one. You could install an External Relay so that your Battery does not go flat. In my case, I do not have one. I've found that I could have my car parked for a week and she would still fire up with no noticable differences. Mind you, I have the biggest Interstate Battery equipped with my FD Alternator.

Out of curiousity, where did you get your FD Alternator and how old Is It? Reason as to me asking Is how you say the FD Alternator zapped your Battery within a mere 24hrs. Knowing these Alternators quite well, I could say that this Is a pretentious statement. I'm speculating that your Battery wasn't up to par with the high output of the FD Alternator and the external Relay maybe compensating for this. I mean, If I didn't Install a relay (which I didn't as previously mentioned), I'd find myself on the curb everyday waving people down to give my Battery a boost.
