Talking High RPM belt-type screech

Didn't know any better way to describe it. Around 5500 - 6000 RPMs I hear a small screech from my engine bay. (Kind of a screechy whine) I assume it's a belt slipping or something of that nature... what should I check and how can I fix it?

Do you have the airpump still intact? I'd also check your belt deflection against the FSM's specs to make sure they're not too loose (and you don't want to tighten them up too much either.)

If you've removed the air pump the alternator/waterpump belt might be slipping in which case tightening it a little more or going with a dual pully on the alternator would help.

^^don't overtighten though...

I ran into this problem before on an old S5 n/a of mine...

tunred out the aftermarket belts I was using were *****....they have a "ribbed" inner edge and it caused less traction at higher rpm's

get a set of dealer belts (solid inner edge) and see if that helps

edit - U SP33ED 4 J3SUS......i SP33D 4 R33S3S PI3C3S- LOL

I changed my belts to goodyear gatorbacks and i am VERY satisfied, the rubber compund is very grippy while still being a Ribbed v-belt. but the big plus is these belts run SUPER quiet, i had some crappy dayco belts on there before and i thought that i needed new tensioner bearings the damn belts were so loud. i recommend these due to they're greatness, and belts shouldnt be tightened no more than 1/4 inch of play and no less than 1/2 inch of play. If you think you can i would repack the tensioner bearings while your in there
