TX High Pitched Wabble type noise....

OK. I think this will be an easy one but before I go tearing this car apart again...

When I am not in gear (neutral) and do not have the clutch pedal engaged. (All my feet off the pedals) ...

I hear this reciprocating type of high pitched wabble whine that only goes away when I push the clutch in... There is no vibrations associated with the noise (that I can feel) and clutch should have about 1/2 life left on it. I have not driven the car hard I have actually driven like I was taking my grandmother to church... So no clutch abuse...

Any idea what could be the cause of my problem before I yank the tranny off? Throw out bearing? My guess... Any input is appretiated! thanks!

I think that would be the release bearing in the clutch system.

My car does it too, it is the transmission bearings. I think that you will find that any time the transmission is turning, you have this noise. To test this, simply push the clutch down an shut off the engine while coasting down a hill, you will still hear the noise. If you kick the transmission into neutral, you will no longer hear it.

This is almost certainly the countershaft bearings (high mileage cars).

NA transmissions are inexpensive on eBay.

well.... you've ruled that it only happens when the trans. is engaged. it could be any number of bearings in the trans. It could be your throwout bearing or if you're lucky it's your pilot bearing. When i first got my rx7 it did the same thing, i ended up rebuilding the trans and replacing the pilot and throwout bearings so i never really found where the actual problem was but it got fixed and was good for future maintenance that i won't have to deal with.
