Redline is there for a reason.

Occasional short bursts over red-line should not harm much, but it is not recommended unless you have modified the motor and/or car.

i have had my 88 n/a for 6 months and i've only went over 7500 once. but i bought a 90 with the 8000 redline that he blew doing donuts one night, ran good home but my guess is he got the internals hot and when they cooled they fused, it only had 100k on it too. nicer car than mine was when i bought it for 2000 dollars more.

Eh, you don't fry your apex seals. They're not really fryable. Overreving the engine to a point could create excessive warping of the eccentric shaft (what your rotors spin around on), ending up having either the rotor make contact with the housing, or flex the seal in a way it's really not supposed to move, and it'd break.

Apex seals are metal. No frying! Beware of what you hear from 85% of mechanics out there. There are weaker things in the motor than the apex seals.

Here's one reason why the redline should be respected, if not obeyed, when running a stock flywheel and/or pressure plate...
