Hey guys... RX-7 noob

Whats up guys, I currently have a civic and was thinking of getting myself a FC.... But the only thing is, Im somewhat cluless to Rx-7s. I was wondering what the different models where and what where the differencess?? Ive heard that rotary is high maintenance, how much maintenance are we talking about here?? I also wanted to know if you guys swap any engines into these like in the Honda world. Ive been doing research on the 2nd gen but I find myself reading 3 page artlces that I forget what they where about by the time im done, so if you guys could help out Id appreciate it.

Try the FAQ and archive. All of you’re ?'s would be answered.

A lot more maintenance and $ then a civic if you do it properly

why the hell would you want to? The sr20det is slow as ***** and you buy a 7 for a rotary not a slow nissan motor. You can do anything if you have the $.

Reliability issue with a 7 is mainly doing to it being a 15+yr old motor in the car or high mileage at the least. Not to mention everything ells on the car is 15+yrs old. If you spend the time bring it back up to par of a new car they will be super reliable and generally take a harder beating then a recipicating engine. Allot of us run premium produces in our 7's this just ensures a bettor and faster runing car but increases our maintaince budget. That’s about it.

That is kind of like playing pin the tail on the donky. This has ben coverd countless times but evrything has its advantages and disadvantages.

Yes there is only 3 major moving internals parts.

Rotaries are fun, they require more work, but are way more fun. These are older cars, as it's already been stated, but they are worth it. I spent $1500 on the car, and have put another $300 into getting it in shape. I've yet to replace the bushings, but I'm getting there. Just don't wimp out, or they'll crap out.

Oh and by the way, they aren't the most efficient engines.

N/A rotarys are pretty bullit proof, mine at about 178000 and still see track days, not many boingers with that kinda of milage could handle the track. Most things I run into are non engine related, wheel bearing, water pump, alt.. etc. They are fun car, and if you treat them right they will treat you right.

Just don't go turnning up the boost and wondering why your car poped.. and as for engine swaps.. any thing can be done with enough $$.. but why not just spend that money and rebuilded your engine to preform like new.

And since your coming from a civic... don't expect good gas milage, average is 17ish, with many turbo guys getting around 14ish.
