Help! Water Temp Guage not working!??!?

I have an s5 vert. which I just got running from an engine fire, the engine only has 15k on the rebuild. I had to replace the wiring harness. My water temp guage isn't working??? Its way down, like 1/2 inch below C. It looks like it moves down a little when the car is turned on/started. The wire at the sensor is on good and I tried wiggling it and still nothing? Any thoughts? Could the sensor itself be bad? Is there any way to test it? or test the guage by hooking up some sort of resistance, as I assume thats how the guage sees the sensor. Does the wire from the sensor pretty much go straight to the guage? I would appreciate some help on this.

Also if I have to get an aftermarket guage....is there any place that sells one that will go in the hole the old sensor is in?

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

Go to www.iluvmyrx7.com and download the Factory Service Manual (FSM) in PDF format for free. The Body Electrical chapter has info on testing the gauges and senders, and the Wiring Diagrams will show you how it's all connected.

Did you know that you have 2 water temp sensors one for the guage which is under the oil filter and one for the computer which is on the back of the water pump
