Help! Trying to disassemble an FC steering rack

I'm in the process of following the de-powering procedure described here:

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/how-de-power-your-steering-rack-right-way-440198/

What I'm having trouble doing is removing the inner tie rod shafts from the main steering rack rack. There is a large ~24mm nut that seems to hold it on, but I'm having a difficult time getting it to loosen. There also seems to be a pin going through the shaft and I don't know if I need remove that or not or even how to remove it. All the instructions seem to skip over that section.

I have everything apart and I need to get it back together today.

Here is a picture of what I'm trying to remove:

Thanks in advance!

Granted I had my rack in a vice while I was de-powering it last week, but I didn't have any problems getting mine loose. Just had to put a little *** behind it. I didn't need a modded wrench or anything, since the "nut" is bigger than the shaft it just slips around it anyway.
